NANCY WILLIS

Complex Hennessey, 2020, oil on paper, 22 x 30”

During Covid, I returned to landscape painting, finding connection to nature, grounding. But then the wildfires broke out, one near Lake Hennessey and smoke filled our Napa air. I returned to this painting I started on-site to capture the opaque haze which lingers today.

Artist Nancy Willis lives and works in the Napa Valley. As a painter and printmaker she works with themes of intimacy and social connection by creating series such as The BED, RSVP, the CHANDELIER and TERRAIN. With paint or printing ink, Willis uses an additive and subtractive process to explore how color, light and atmosphere can instill meaning and evoke a sense of place.

Willis has exhibited at the StARTup Art Fairs in Houston, LA, Chicago and San Francisco as well as Sundance, Utah. A solo exhibition of her paintings and prints of Paris titled SAVOR THE MOMENT was recently shown at Chandra Cerrito Art Advisors in Oakland, CA. In addition to teaching at the Napa Valley College, the Culinary Institute of America and Nimbus arts, she leads painting workshops in France, California and Utah.
