I am thrilled to finally be installing The Great Wave exhibition at Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek. I proposed this exhibition at the beginning of 2019, inspired by the work of Hokusai, my love of the ocean, and my passion for putting great artists together. It will open with a reception Sunday, January 12, 3 - 5pm.

Artists include: Brandon Anderton, Tess Felix, Peter Hassen, Liz Hickok, Hughen/Starkweather, Luc Janssens, Josh Keyes, Richard and Judith Lang, Courtney Mattison, Allison Watkins and Angela Willetts.

Artists through the ages have looked to the ocean in all its majesty and terror for clues about the planet’s future. This group exhibition features contemporary artists who live near the coast, and whose work immerses us in a watery drama. This show finds inspiration in the work of Japanese ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai’s ubiquitous woodblock print The Great Wave. The Great Wave is recognizable across cultures as a symbol of the unpredictable power of the ocean. Using this historic piece as a jumping off point, the artists in the exhibition explore the ocean as a source of mystery and strength.

Norma I. Quintana’s Forage From Fire series will be featured in a large group exhibition at the California Museum of Photography in Riverside, CA.

Artist Peter Hassen will participate in curator Jennifer Wechsler's new exhibition which presents a historic overview of the artistic explorations that have grown out of Marin County over the last one hundred years. Other artists include Catherine Wagner, Chester Arnold,Clare Rojas, Deborah Oropallo, Inez Storer, Judith & Richard Lang, Larry Sultan, Mark di Suvero and William Wiley.
